Paul LiCalsi Defends Two Classic Songs in Copyright Disputes
December 14, 2016 in Arts, Notes
Classmate PAUL LICALSI (DC), of Robins Kaplan in New York City, defended the publishers of the songs “This Land is Your Land” and “We Shall Overcome” in two copyright suits. While the plaintiffs attempted to invalidate the copyrights so that the songs could enter the public domain–which, on the surface, may sound like a good thing–the plot thickens when you discover that such a verdict would have deprived some charitable organizations of much needed funding. See the article for more information about the arguments on both sides. (Our thanks to SCOTT KILLINGSWORTH for bringing this article to our attention.)
