Berkeley College roommates Peter Lawler and Jim Frogge report on the death of Ron Finch: “We regret to inform the class of the death of Ron Finch. He was 65 years old and a resident of Phoenix Arizona. He leaves behind a daughter Mary, a recent graduate of Notre Dame University. He also had 2 older brothers who attended Yale, Jerry in the class of 1966 and John  in the class of 1964. Ron was known to many of us of course, especially all of his friends in Berkeley College and on the swim team, of which he was a 4 year letterman. Ron was always full of laughter and good cheer, and knew how to make others feel at ease. He loved Yale and loved his time there. Both of us were his roommates for all of our 4 years together and between the 2 of us spending 2 days together at the services in Phoenix, we could not even begin to tell all the stories of our times together with Ron. Many of the Berkeley crowd will remember the night Ron made his dinner entrance into the Berkeley Dining hall, staggering and bent over in half,  having just broken the Yale record for sit-ups, some ridiculous number approaching or surpassing 6000, a feat for which he trained a grand total of 2 weeks. Or the many times he would take whomever was the lucky one for a road trip in his beloved Corvette. Although he was not able to fully escape the demons which chased him at the end of his life, his happy moments and the happiness he brought to others far surpassed the bad times.”

“Finch, Robert 65 of Scottsdale passed away in his home on September 3, 2014. Born in Chicago to the late John and Marie Finch, Ron graduated from the Lawrenceville School, Yale University and the University of Arizona Law School. He is survived by a loving family: daughter Sarah Finch in Chicago, brother Jerry Finch and Family in Kentucky, and former spouse Mary and Family in Kentucky. A Memorial Service will be held at the Valley Presbyterian Church Chapel, 6947 E. McDonald Drive on Friday, September 12 at 1:30 PM. Arrangements entrusted to Messinger Mortuary.”
